Patron Information

  • Library Card - You can register at the Circulation Desk located near the front entrance of the library. If you have a Florida driver's license in good standing with a Miami Shores address, you may get a Brockway Library card free of charge.  If you do not have a Florida driver's License, you may still get a free card if you can supply us with proof of residence in Miami Shores AND a photo ID; i.e. legitimate driver's license from any state; a Florida ID may also serve as a photo ID. For applicants without Florida driver's license, proof of residence is best demonstrated by showing us an original lease agreement OR something official with your name and Miami Shores address on it (a phone bill or credit card statement).

  • If you are 16 years of age or younger, a parent or guardian must apply for your card.

  • If you are a non-resident (if you live outside of Miami Shores city limits), you may still get a library card for a charge of $65.00 annually or $150.00 annually with computer privileges. If you are 16 years of age or younger, you may get a card for $25.00 a year, and a parent must apply for your card.

  • Borrowing Guidelines:

  • Present your  Library card each time you borrow materials. YOUR CARD CANNOT BE USED BY ANYONE ELSE BUT YOURSELF.

  • Report a lost card or change of address immediately.

  • You are responsible for all items and fees attached to your card and your child's card.

  • To avoid fines, return all items promptly.  If you have fees you will be notified when you check out materials

  • Computers:  The Library has 8 public access computers for Internet access and word processing. Printing (black & white) is available for a charge of .20¢ per page  and 50¢ per page for full graphic. To use our computers, you will need a library card (see above).

  • The Library has Wireless access. Currently, there are no logon procedures. Simply turn on your laptop equipped with a network card, and the wireless network should be available to you. The connection quality is uniform throughout the building.

Only books may be placed in the book drop.  Audio-Visual materials (DVDs, CDs, Audio-books), must be returned at the front desk when the library is open.  Videos and Audios left in book drop will be fined $2.00 per item;  if damage occurs to AV materials left in the book drop, the patron is responsible  for the replacement cost of items plus processing fee.
